Frequently Asked Questions

When I start up DSbible, it is frozen on "Initializing FAT..."
This could mean you need to DLDI-patch bible.nds for your device. More likely, it could mean that it can't find the data files because you put them in the wrong place. Make sure you copied the "bible" folder that came with DSbible to the root of your memory card, i.e. don't put it in any other folder on your memory card. Put it on the top.

How do I get NIV on this thing?
The NIV translation of the Bible and a lot of other modern translations are copyrighted, which I think means it would be illegal to distribute them with or alongside DSbible. Something about that doesn't seem right at all, but it's the reality.

Can you add this feature please?
Sorry, I cannot add it because I am not working on DSbible anymore. I lack the software, the hardware, and the motivation. I moved on from DS homebrew quite a while ago. I was bad at programming, especially things as nice as DSbible, so it's a mess under there. It would be no fun at all to add a feature. I have a lovely Bible app on my iPod Touch, so I have no itch left for DSbible to scratch. If you'd like to maintain DSbible, I'll gladly hand it over.

I give DSBible two thumbs up!

Quick update to version 2.51:

- Fixed a word wrapping bug where very long words would freeze DSbible when loading a book. (This affected at least the book of Revelation ("Offenbarung") in the German translation.)
- Included the Afrikaans language file in the main download.

Brother Jeremy,

Many thanks for your effort in creating DS Bible.

I am truely blessed by it. If possible, would you please include a feature: To have green text foreground colour and black background (probably some themes". I find that it is useful to read my NIV bible if i could look at the screen longer.

Yes, it is NIV version that i am reading:)

Congratulations man; love the DS Bible(and it's even better that spanish one!). How did you compile the verses? Are you directly copy/pasting from somewhere else, or typed by hand all of that?

Thanks Jeremy for your beautiful work

Can this work on the DSi?
Posted by jeremy Ruten on September 19th, 2009
Yep, you just need a DSi-compatible homebrew device. I hear DSbible works great with the Acekard 2i.

Thank you!

I tried to download DSBible to my DS, but can not work.
Only show on display : please wait...
initializing FAT...
Can you help me to solve this?
Thanks
Posted by jeremy Ruten on September 20th, 2009
This happens when it can't find the data files. The ones inside the "bible" folder. Try as it might.

Make sure you copy the "bible" folder to your memory card. And don't put it into another folder. Just drop it in the main area of your memory card. Then everything's perfect.

Yes, one of the four translations is french - but the translator's name is LOUIS SEGOND, not "Second".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_Segond

It's a bit difficult to trust your bible text if even the spelling of a translator's name is wrong. -.-

Another thing, mor technical: The screen is still on after closing my DSi. Maybe this could get fixed in the future?

Posted by jeremy Ruten on September 22nd, 2009
Thankyou for pointing that out. The guy who formatted the text for me spelled it that way. So sorry, I didn't know any better. :(

And yes, the screen going blank when closing the DS is a feature I never got around to. Unfortunately I've decided not to work on DSbible or any of my DS homebrew any longer.

This is a huge blessing to me - God Bless.

Well, this is pretty much awesome! I am very pleased with everything the DS Bible has to offer!

However, may I make a suggestion for the next update? It'd be nice to see the choice between the current window views and holding the DS sideways, like in dslibris. ^^"

Thanks for your hard work! Loves it. :>

- Luacs.

Please add a section to take notes.

it'd be deadly if there was a way to search for multiple terms, or a sentence, rather than it just looking for every text instance of a word.
still super awesome, though.

i put the rom on my ds and it loads but will not play the rom. does anyone know how to get it to actually work?
Posted by jeremy Ruten on May 5th, 2010
Hey,

Make sure to copy the 'bible' folder to your memory card as well as the rom. Put the 'bible' folder in the root of your memory card, i.e. not in any folder. It doesn't matter where you put the rom.

Here are a few suggestions for the next version:

-Be able to refine the search by Old Testament,New Testament, whole Bible, or by books(for example Genesis to Joshua <or> Acts to 1 Timothy). There could be a screen with these selections prior to the search screen (the one with the search box and keys).
-Extend the word search to more than just 250 results (maybe up to 500 or something).
-On the word search results screen, beside the verse address, show part of the verse and the searched word. For example if you type in the word "justice" and Genesis 18:19 pops up, have the 4 words prior and the 4 words after the searched word: "by doing righteousness and justice, so that the Lord".
-Have a "next verse" button with arrow tile after selecting a verse on word search.
-On the Jump to verse screen put a colon ( : ) button that spans across the top of the keypad (going from the 1 key all the way to the ? key) for a speedier search.
-Be able to highlight a verse and it's following verses instead of just one verse at a time. There needs to be a dash ( - ) button.
-Be able to attach a note to a verse.
-Be able to scroll down the Bible versions list using the cross pad.
-Have a Sleep Mode that goes into effect when you close the DS.

Suggestion for more advanced stuff:
Have a Bible version that, when you touch a word (on the bottom screen of the DS) it will show you the Hebrew or Greek word and it's meaning on the top screen of the DS (i.e. have a Hebrew and Greek lexicon)

I have my NWT bible on MS Word. How do I convert it to be able to put on my DS?
Posted by jeremy Ruten on March 16th, 2011
You'll need a custom program or script to convert it. If you send the Word document to jeremy.ruten@gmail.com, I'll see what I can do. :)
Posted by Mimi on March 18th, 2011
I completed a copy and paste from the web-site www.watchtower.org. I have not finished placing the bookmarks and hyperlinks for each book and verse. Would you be able to email me the custom program or script to convert it myself, along with instruction.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
